Happy wine trails at Malibu Wine Safari

What a great time to be a wine lover! There are so many events and activities popping up all over, you don’t have to go far to enjoy a day amongst the grapes. Local wine events are getting listed in local papers, at neighborhood restaurants, and of course announced through social media. Make sure to check these local sources for the very latest in your community. You just may be surprised at what your find in your own backyard.

I live in Ventura County, right outside of Los Angeles, California. This is southern California. The northern part of California above San Francisco is Wine Country. I can’t tell you how excited I am to find wine events so close to me right here in Southern California. I used to travel at least a couple of hours to get to the grapes. Nowadays, I don’t have to go far at all. There’s even a mini wine tasting trail developing within 20 minutes of where I live. Fantastic news!

One of my very favorite local events is the Malibu Wine Safari. Yep, that’s right. Wild animals and wine. My friends surprised me with this for my birthday last year. I loved it so much, I surprised my husband with it a few months later.

Feeding GoatsThe gist of this awesome adventure is you hop on board your safari wagon, then tour the Saddlerock Ranch from the comfort of this bouncy, open-air vehicle. Along the way, you visit with zebra, alpacas, bison, giraffes and other inhabitants. The tour guide provides you with carrots and lettuce so you can get up close and personal with some of your new wild friends. Along the way, there are two stops for wine tasting. We had some red, white and rose on our tour with a few complimentary snacks. The whole tour lasts about 2 hours. So much fun and so close. It’s a great way to spend a couple of hours and get your grape on!

If you haven’t yet had enough grapes for the day, you can take a complimentary van over to Saddlerock Ranch Winery. There’s often live music playing on the weekends. More food is available, more wine, and a beautiful picnic setting in the hills. It gets very crowded there, which is not surprising because you are truly among the vines in this idyllic spot at the edge of Los Angeles.

No more feeling isolated from your beloved grapes because you don’t live in Napa. Fear not, local wine events are right around the corner from you. Check out your local sources and smell the wine!
